The Minister of Home Affairs, Eduardo Cabrita, said today that the United Kingdom will continue to be a security partner for Portugal, regardless of its exit from the European Union, which should be “as smooth as possible”.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Conservative Party is seeking in today's elections to regain an absolute majority, lost due to expulsions and defections of deputies dissatisfied with the Brexit's course and also due to disagreement with the ally Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) of Northern Ireland.
On the opposite side, the Labour Party is leading the opposition in an attempt to halt Johnson's negotiated agreement with Brussels to complete the EU exit process by January 31, promising to renegotiate the terms and refer the result to a referendum.

In his speech, the Eduardo Cabrita pointed out that the awards given today by the Portuguese State reflect “exemplary cooperation in security”, namely in terms of training and risk prevention, between Portugal, Spain, France and the United Kingdom and that Europe is an “area of freedom, security and justice” and a “sharing of democratic values”.
